The Savoy Thames Foyer to Gallery Repositioning

Repositioning One Of London’s Most Iconic Hotel Spaces

The Savoy, a landmark luxury hotel located on the banks of the River Thames in London, is renowned for its rich history, elegant design and exceptional hospitality. Originally opened in 1889, the hotel remains one of London’s most prestigious destinations, combining heritage, glamour and world-class service.

Artizan Group played a key role in the repositioning of the former Thames Foyer into Gallery, supporting the transformation of one of the hotel’s most recognised guest spaces into a more flexible Food & Beverage destination.

The project carefully protected the legacy of afternoon tea, one of The Savoy’s most iconic guest experiences, while creating new opportunities for lunch, evening, drinks and dining service.

The wider repositioning also included the conversion of the upper Thames Foyer into two guest-facing retail outlets: The Savoy Florist and Scoff, a high-end scone and bakery-led retail concept.

The project

The owners’ and operators’ goals were clear: to reposition the Thames Foyer into a more commercially flexible and experiential hospitality destination, while maintaining the quality, elegance and heritage character expected of The Savoy.

Artizan supported the project from early feasibility and concept development through procurement, delivery, handover and opening support. Our role included client representation, consultant appointment and coordination, contractor and FF&E procurement support, value engineering, heritage planning coordination, building control liaison and live hotel operational coordination.

The preconstruction period extended over approximately 12 months, allowing the client brief, design development, procurement strategy, cost planning, sample reviews and operational phasing to be carefully managed before the fast-track fit-out commenced.

Artizan coordinated the project team, specialist consultants and hotel stakeholders to ensure that the works could be delivered within a live ultra-luxury hotel environment, while protecting guest experience and maintaining operational continuity. This included support for breakfast service relocation, disruption mitigation, testing, commissioning, snagging, attic stock, operational training and opening support.

The works were delivered over an 8-week fit-out period and completed on time and under budget. The completed Gallery repositioning enhanced the commercial flexibility of the space and supported a broader all-day F&B offer, while maintaining the heritage, quality and guest experience expected of The Savoy.

Artizan’s involvement helped reduce owner risk through early planning, stakeholder coordination, procurement management, cost control, contract administration and senior project oversight. The result is a carefully repositioned hotel destination that balances heritage, operational performance and contemporary luxury hospitality.
